Odigbo residents protest alleged imposition of non indigene as caretaker chairman

Human and vehicular movements were paralyzed for several hours at the governor’s office, Alagbaka Akure as some residents of Odigbo Local government protested against the alleged imposition of a stranger as caretaker chairman of the council area

The protesters who blocked Governor’s office gate displayed placards with inscriptions, don’t pitch us against our Igbo neighbours, no Justice, no peace, we say no to imposition and enough of imposition in Odigbo Local government

Leading the protesters, Comrade Akinyan Jimmy and Dayo Ikueduranni alleged that Mrs Uckeria Nwamara from Imo state was being imposed on the residents as caretaker Chairman

The protesters demanded that the alleged Mrs Uwamara should steer clear of the council chairmanship position or vie for such position in her State saying stranger would never be allowed in the number one seat of the council

Appreciating, the people for the peaceful protest the acting governor Lucky Ayedatiwa pleaded that unsubstantiated perceptions and rumours should be disallowed from disrupting peaceful coexistence of the town

The Acting governor who said government had taken note of their grievances however maintained that government had the constitutional power to appoint which were usually lobbied by politicians

Mr Ayedatiwa advised the people to talk to government through their party leaders noting that errors done through appointment could be corrected during election holding next year February#
