Igogo Festival: Ojomo-in-Council accuses Olowo’s followers of destruction of property

The Ojomo-in-Council has described the demolition of Ojomo Market gate and destruction of Market women property in Ijebu-Owo by the participants of Igogo festival yesterday.

The Council in a statement made available to newsmen condemned in its entirety the wanton destruction of stalls, goods and bringing down of the Market gate that was widely opened by those that followed the procession of Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III during his annual Igogo festival.

In the statement by Chief Tunde Ojomoboriota, the Ojomo-in-Council said those on the procession entered into the market, pulled down the fence with the gate and made away with the gate on a motorcycle.

Chief Ojomoboriota said Ijebu-Owo people are peace loving hence the calmness during the destruction of the property by those on Olowo’s procession.

The Ojomo-in-Council emphasized that the traditional institution law in Ondo State and all over the country did not permit any other monarch to forcefully encroach the territory of others as Oba Kofoworola Olatunbosun Oladoyinbo Ojomo Aruliwo III remain resolute and maintains dignity by abiding with the peace accord earlier signed.

The participants also destroyed the traders stalls and their goods noting that the market was however deserted at the time of the incident.

The Ojomo-in-Council called on Ondo State Government, concerned authorities and relevant security agencies to do the needful and bringing perpetrators to book.

The Council described as unfortunate the dastard act of the followers of the monarch who despite signing undertaken still went ahead to violate it.

When contacted, the Police Area Commander in Owo, ACP Olufemi Awoyale said there was nomarlcy and some arrests have been made.
