The growing fortune of gifted secondary school students in Igogo Ekiti – headquarters of Ero Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti State has received another boost with the announcement of “all-round best student award”, instituted by the family of Dr Kolawole and Dr (Chief Mrs) Ololade Ojo.
Speaking recently on the development from New Jersey, United States of America, Dr Ojo revealed that the motive behind the #100,000 cash award to each of the best students from Igogo Commercial High School and Ifelodun Comprehensive High School in their WAEC result, was to encourage scholarship among the younger generation and instill academic discipline in them for greater exploits.
Stressing the benefit of hardwork, the author of Compendium of Igogo Ekiti explained that the need to encourage “these children” to reach for the stars in their respective area of academic interest and groom them for future challenges are among the motivating factors that made his family to institute the award.
According to him, harnessing the potentials of brilliant students, especially at the grassroot, can model them into becoming great ambassadors of both their communities and the country, when adequately supported, while others would also struggle hard to emulate them.
He added that he has mandated the Sports and Award Sub-committee of the Igogo Ekiti Day Celebration Committee to work out the modalities for immediate takeoff and subsequent implementation of the award, beginning from 2024, for ratification.
While appreciating those who have earlier instituted similar awards, he emphasised that any gesture meant to advance humanity remains an investment for future greatness of the society.
