Funke Banjoko announces new scholarship for best English students

In what appears to be a season of cordial competition among successful sons and daughters of Igogo Ekiti – headquarters of Ero Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti State – to encourage brilliant students of the town, a new award for the Best English Students has again been instituted.

According to the the visioner of the award, Mrs Funke Banjoko (nee Ogunsuyi), the award was in remembrance of her late mother’s memory, who among others, bequeathed virtues and good upbringing to her, leading her to the lofty position she currently occupies  as the first back woman to be elected Councilor into the regional municipality of Wood Bufallo government, McMurray, Alberta Canada.

The new award is intended to be received by the best male and female students in English Language from Igogo Ekiti Commercial High School and Ifeoldun Grammar School, Igogo Ekiti, among the SS2 students, who have just been promoted to SS3 in their respective schools.

The Sports, Award and Youths Development Sub-committee of the Central Organising Committee for the 2024 Igogo Ekiti Day Celebrations has already contacted the principals of the two schools for update, while lucky candidates will be announced and presented with the award during the fiesta.

Banjoko, a princess, who graduated in History from the University of Jos in 1989 and had a professional study in supply chain management at the Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Stamford University, United Kingdom, qualifying for MCIPS IN 1997, further revealed that she was ready to do more as a legacy to promote scholarship among the upcoming generation, not only in her home town but in others places.

She advised the youths to see education as one of the best gifts of life, saying, anyone aspiring to be great in life must continue to learn and acquire new and relevant  knowledge from various sources for personal development and spiritual growth.
