….Condemns killing of farmer, Okada rider

The Lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency I, in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Kolawole Ologede has called for urgent action from the state government and security agencies to protect the lives of farmers in his constituency.

The call followed the killing of another farmer identified as Iya Samuel and an Okada rider Mr Sunday Oladele at Ago Oyinbo in Igbatoro Familugba Community by suspected herdsmen.

The lawmaker who condemned in strongest term the continuous killings and gunmen attacks on farmers and dwellers in his constituency, expressed deep concern over the worsening insecurity in rural parts of the state.

According to him, “It is heartbreaking to see innocent farmers, who toil day and night to feed our communities, being targeted and killed. These senseless attacks must stop, and I am calling on the state government to deploy more security personnel especially Amotekun Corps to rural areas like Igbatoro Familugba”

The lawmaker urged community leaders and dwellers to collaborate with security agencies in identifying the perpetrators of the heinous crimes.

According to eyewitnesses, the latest attack occurred on September 7 Sunday evening, when the Iya Samuel was shot dead while coming from the farm, and the bike man conveying her was also feared dead.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but tensions between local farmers and Fulani herdsmen have been escalating in recent months as two farmer were killed this year.

It would be recalled that last August, a farmer, Segun was attacked by suspected herdsmen and another farmer, Paul was also killed on September, 2024 while working on their farmlands.
