Why We Must Stand Together, By Sunday Afolayan

In this world so vast and wide
A simple truth we must be told
That we are bound, hand in hand
To stand together in unity of purpose.

Beyond the walls that put us asunder
There lies a call: a clarion call to service
To stretch out our hands in love
To lift others up from where they fall.

For in our hearts, we are all the same
Seeking solace from life’s fragile game
Together we find love and strength
Through trials and tribulations of life.

When sorrow strikes with all its might
And darkness covers our brothers’ sight
It’s our duty to rise without hesitation
To reach out, console and help the needy.

When hunger gnaws at their empty core
And they strive for what to eat or drink
Our obligation it is to share our bread
To quench the hunger that knocks down their bones.

When injustice casts its painful stings
And cries for justice echo in subtle voice
We must unite to fight what’s wrong
To give voice to those badly oppressed.

When poverty knocks on others’ doors
And hope seems lost like dust in the air
Our duty it is to lend our hands
To lift them up from their sinking boat.

When hatred breeds and seeks to divide
We must stand tall, side by side every time
To bridge the gaps that tear us apart
With love and affection in all our hearts.

For in being our brother’s keeper, we find
A unity rooted deep within our minds
A bond that strengthens us to stand
To lift up and inspire all that we do.

So, let us rise, my brothers and sisters
With open hearts and minds sincere
To be keepers of one another, anytime
For this’ a call to duty for you and me.
