….It’s the best decision – NUJ
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has asked the Commander of the State Security Network Agency codenamed AMOTEKUN, Adetunji Adeleye, to serve for another term in office.
The Governor announced his reappointment in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan. The appointment takes effect from May 21, 2024.
Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the impressive performance of the agency under the leadership of Commander Adeleye in the last four years.
Whilst calling for continued collaboration between AMOTEKUN and other security agencies, the Governor urged the Commander to remain steadfast and more dedicated to the protection of lives and property in the State.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has congratulated award-winning Akogun Adetunji Adeleye on his reappointment as the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed AMOTEKUN Corps by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
In a Press Release issued by the State Chairman of the Union, Prince ‘Leke Adegbite and the State Secretary, Comrade Olaoluwa Meshack, Ondo NUJ described the step by the Governor to renew the tenure of Akogun Adeleye as commendable, lawfully appropriate and publicly felicitous.
The Pen Professionals Body notes that considering how Ondo Amotekun Corps under Akogun Adeleye has been protecting the residents of the state against criminal elements, especially in our forests, highways and farms, it is normal to applaud Governor Aiyedatiwa’s action.
“This is unarguably one of the best decisions of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration, as the reappointment of Akogun Adetunji Adeleye will not only consolidate strong structure of Ondo Amotekun Corps established over four years ago, but also send a powerful signal that Ondo State still remains no go area for criminal elements”
“No doubt that Amotekun corps in Ondo State is a shining example and should be made a template upon which State/Community Policing should be entrenched in the Nation’s Constitution.
The union noted that Ondo Amotekun Corps has been working consistently and harmoniously with other Security agencies such as the Police, Armed Forces, DSS, NSCDC and others, urging the outfit not to rest on its oars to liberate the state from criminal elements.
While applauding Governor Aiyedatiwa for showing unprecedented commitment to sustain Amotekun Corps, one of the legacies of his former principal, late Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo NUJ encourages the State Government to prioritize adequate funding of the security outfit.
