Oyo FIDA seeks more collaboration to end violence against women, girls

Oyo state chapter of FIDA has called for further collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the continous move to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

The outgoing chairperson of FIDA, Barrister Olusola Sulayman who completed her tenure successfully spoke during the annual Law week held at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku Ibadan encouraged everyone to continue in their support of FIDA Oyo and to remain relentless in the promotion of the rights and betterment of women and children wherever they may find themselves.

Barrister Sulayman who announced the activities held during the law week, said FIDA unders her leadership supported orphanage at Jesus’s Kids home at Iwo Road where children with downsyndrome are being cared for. Also there was a massive sensitisation to Okere of Saki’s Palace, HRH Oba Khalid Olabisi as well as interactive engagement at Sango Market , Oja Adabo, on the need for women facing sexual and geneder based violence to speak up and seek for help.

The Chairperson noted that it is a collective responsibility to end sexual and gender based violence, while acknowledging the role of the judiciary in the fight against SGBV, she commended other stakeholders like the Child protection Network, security agencies, NACTAL, various media organisation as well as the Executive and legislative arm of government for ensuring that perpetrators are made to face the law.

She however thank God almighty for granting her the grace to pilot the affairs of this great organisation from December 9th 2021 till now, saying that it has been a wonderful period of learning and growth for her and the organisation as well.

Barrister Sulyman specially appreciated the lawmaker represting oyo south senatorial district, Senator Sarafadeen Ali for supporting FIDA with an operational bus during her tenure and her supportive husband, Otunba Abiodun Sulayman for encouraging her, urging other men to imbibe her husband’s supportive role towards attaining success as FIDA chaiprperson.

She also commended all members of FIDA in Oyo State for giving me the opportunity and the privilege to be their Chief Servant for the past 3 years and for their unflinching support to function effectively in that role, adding that it has been a very interesting journey that would have not been possible without everyone.

She also added that her executive members have worked tirelessly to see that every project and plan saw the light of day and deserves to be commended, lastly giving kudos partners and donors who contributed immensely to the success of all our projects during my period of service.
