Adelegbe media team apologises to Owo Anglican Bishop

The recent misunderstanding between the Media Team of Hon. Timehin Adelegbe, the member representing Owo\Ose Federal Constituency in the National Assembly and the office of the Bishop of the Diocese of Owo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) seems to have been at last put to rest.

In a statement, the Adelegbe Media team spokesperson, Hon. Olaniyi Eni-Olotu, has officially dissociated itself from a statement credited to one Mr. Ayo Awoniyi, who alleged that the Diocesan Bishop of  Owo, Rt. Reverend Stephen Fagbemi (PhD), requested financial favours from Otunba Timehin Adelegbe.

Setting the record straight, Hon. Olaniyi Eni-Olotu emphasized that Mr. Ayo Awoniyi was neither a member of the Adelegbe Media Team nor authorized to speak on behalf of the lawmaker. His claims were purely personal opinions, unfounded, and a misrepresentation of the truth. The Lord Bishop never made any financial request to Otunba Adelegbe, as falsely suggested.

According to the spokesperson, Otunba (Dr.) Timehin Adelegbe, a committed member of the Anglican Communion, holds the office of the Lord Bishop in the highest regard. As a spiritual leader, the Lord Bishop has the moral standing to encourage the lawmaker to do more for his constituents, a gesture that should not be misinterpreted as criticism.

Hon. Olaniyi Eni-Olotu further noted that certain political actors, driven by ambition and desperation, had twisted the Bishop’s counsel to fit their selfish agenda. These individuals, who had their eyes set on Otunba Adelegbe’s seat, had attempted to tarnish his reputation ahead of the next general election. However, according to him, the reality remained that his impact in the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency speaks for itself.

He went further to say that dragging a revered cleric into political conflicts for personal gain is both unnecessary and condemnable.

In conclusion, Hon. Olaniyi Eni-Olotu, on behalf of the Adelegbe Media Team, extends an unreserved apology to Rt. Reverend Stephen Fagbemi (PhD) and the entire Anglican Communion for any negative comments made against the Bishop by individuals associated with the matter.
In a reaction to this development, the Public Relations Officer of the Diocese, Basorun Banjo Abitogun said it was about time the madness was stopped. He said the apology was timely and in order.
According to him, the position and office of the Diocese Bishop is a revered one and should not be used by anybody to either trend or gain undue popularity..
