Aiyedatiwa pledges more women empowerment, inclusion in governance

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reemphasised his administration’s commitment to women empowerment and their inclusion in decision making process.

The Governor made the commitment in Akure on Monday at a one-day workshop organised by the State Ministry of Women Affairs for elected and appointed female officials in the state.

The event, held at the Women Development and Skills Acquisition Centre, Akure, had as its theme “Unity of Purpose: A panacea For the Successful Delivery of the “Our Ease Agenda-Purpose-driven Followership”. It was attended by women leaders from various sectors, including government officials, policymakers and development partners.

Governor Aiyedatiwa who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti acknowledged women’s critical role in his government’s “Our Ease” agenda, which he said focuses on eight key development areas, including security, economic empowerment, healthcare, education and infrastructural

He explained that the State women have continued to break barriers, balancing family responsibilities with official and career engagements. He said the workshop is designed to enhance their leadership capacity and equip them with the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to governance and development.

In her keynote address, Prof. Bridget Awosika of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo emphasised the importance of unity among female leaders in achieving set objectives. She noted that collective effort, effective communication and shared vision are essential for sustainable development.

Participants engaged in discussions on leadership strategies, policy implementation and ways to enhance women’s contributions to governance. They also pledged to work together in achieving the objectives of the “Our Ease” agenda.

In her remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Seun Osamaye, stressed the need for collaboration and strategic engagement among women in leadership positions to ensure the successful implementation of government’s “Our Ease” agenda.

Dr. Osamaye commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration for its commitment to gender inclusivity, noting that the workshop was a testament to the government’s dedication to empowering women.

She urged participants to take advantage of the platform to build networks, share experiences and develop innovative solutions to governance challenges.

A former speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele also delivered lecture at the event.
