Aiyedatiwa constitutes panel over Ugbo-Ugbonla communal crisis

In a decisive move to address the recent communal unrest in Ilaje Local Government Area, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has constituted a six-member Panel of Inquiry to investigate the crisis that erupted in the Ugbo-Ugbonla community.

The violent clashes, which reportedly stemmed from disputes over traditional leadership, resulted in the tragic loss of life and destruction of properties.

The Governor’s intervention comes amid growing concern over the security and stability of the affected area.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the panel has been tasked with investigating the remote and immediate causes of the conflict and determining the roles played by various individuals and groups.

The members of the panel are:

1. Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi – Chairman


2. Justice Orimisan Okorisa – Member


3. Primate Afolabi Aboyewa – Member


4. Hon. Hamidu Takuro – Member


5. Barr. Yinka Orokoto – Member


6. Mr Dele Adesanmi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs – Secretary



The panel’s terms of reference include identifying persons or groups who, either by action or omission, were directly or indirectly involved in or sponsored the crisis.

The panel is also expected to make recommendations on measures to prevent a recurrence and any other suggestions it deems appropriate based on its findings.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged members of the panel to approach the assignment with diligence, integrity, and impartiality, and to conclude their investigation within six weeks.

He also appealed to residents of the Ugbo-Ugbonla community to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with the panel.
