Ondo ACSPN asks journalists to promote peace as world marks 2025 Communications Day

The Ondo State chapter of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has joined the global community in commemorating the 59th World Communications Day.

In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Sunday Kolawole; Secretary, Richard Ilesanmi and Publicity Secretary, Tosin Ajuwon, the association acknowledged the contributions of media professionals in Ondo State who, it said, work tirelessly to inform, educate, and inspire the public.

“The significance of this day lies in recognising the vital function of communication in bridging the gap between the government and the governed, and in enabling peace, progress, and development,” the statement read.

The association commended journalists and media practitioners in the state for their resilience and dedication, often under difficult conditions. It also called on both private and public media organisations to improve the working environment and welfare of their staff.

ACSPN urged journalists to remain committed to developmental journalism, noting the need for stories that not only inform but also promote peace and societal advancement.

The group, however, cautioned against the spread of misinformation and fake news, encouraging media practitioners to uphold truth, integrity, and professionalism at all times.

“In the face of temptations and pressures, we must stay true to our calling by resisting compromise and consistently speaking truth to power,” the statement urged.

ACSPN also reminded the government of its responsibility to communicate its policies and programmes effectively, particularly in addressing security and developmental challenges affecting citizens.

The association appealed to leaders to leverage communication as a tool for fostering understanding, peace, and national development.

Theme of this year’s celebration, “Share, with gentleness, the hope that is in your heart,” highlighted the role of communicators in shaping society and promoting peace through their craft.
