Veteran Journalist, Idowu Ajanaku is Ondo Commissioner for Information and Orientation

Veteran Journalist, Idowu Ajanaku is now the new Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo state.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assigned him the portfolio today, a day after the inauguration of 16 commissioners into the State Executive Council.

With decades of experience in journalism, public communication and governance, Ajanaku’s appointment was to strengthen the state’s communication strategies.

His nomination was confirmed by the Ondo State House of Assembly after a thorough screening process.

Born on June 2, 1966, in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, Ajanaku’s professional journey is defined by perseverance and excellence. He was the best graduating student at Idogun High School in 1985.

Despite facing personal hardships, including the early loss of his father, he went on to earn a Second Class Upper degree in History and International Studies from Lagos State University in 2009. Ajanaku later pursued a Master’s Degree with Distinction in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos in 2012.

He began his journalism career at Moonshine, a local newspaper in Mushin, where his skills earned him rapid promotions, ultimately becoming the editor. His career trajectory led him to prominent positions at Lagos Mirror and The Guardian Newspaper, where he gained recognition for his insightful political reporting and analyses.

He also contributed extensively to the discourse surrounding Yoruba politics and the activities of the Afenifere socio-political group.

Throughout his media career, Ajanaku was a familiar figure on television programmes, including Editors Forum on Galaxy TV. His work has earned him several accolades, such as, Best Political Reporter of the Year (2006) – African Media Watch, USA, Best Political Writer in Southwest Nigeria – Media Focus, UK, Egbe Omo Yoruba Presidential Milestone Award for contributions to Nigerian journalism


Ajanaku’s contributions go beyond journalism; he served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). He played an instrumental role in the 2015 gubernatorial campaign of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and later served as Special Adviser on Information Strategy in the Lagos State cabinet.

His appointment as Commissioner for Information and Orientation is to usher in a new era of strategic communication and public enlightenment under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration. Ajanaku’s leadership is expected to enhance the state’s information management and engage citizens effectively.

He is married to Mrs. Biodun Elizabeth Ajanaku, and they have children. He is a committed Christian, a family man and an advocate for responsible media practices.
