The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has pledged the institution’s steady support to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security to bolster the security of lives and property in and around of the university.

Prof. Ige made the pledge on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, when he played host to the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State command, Adebowale Lawal, who paid a familiarisation visit to the University.

“As a responsible Management, we place premium on the security of our students and staff, and we will continue to give all necessary supports to the police for the safety of all of us. We will bend over backwards to stamp out criminals in the University community”, the VC said.

He appealed to the commissioner to deploy more men of the Force to the campus and Akungba Community and urged more collaborations from all stakeholders, including neighbouring communities and other security agencies,

He also expressed appreciation to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Akungba and his team for their consistent support in maintaining peace and stability in the institution, assuring that the Management will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the Police Force.

In his remarks, CP Lawal commended the AAUA Management for its proactive approach to security matters, noting that the Command is working to enhance police-student relations across the state.

“The Police Command has what is called a School Protection Unit. Initially, it was established for secondary schools, but now, we plan to include tertiary institutions in Ondo State. Additionally, the command is making efforts to reactivate the Student-Police Relations Committee. This will provide a platform for dialogue, idea exchange, and resolution of issues before they escalate”, CP Lawal disclosed.

The Commissioner also revealed plans to increase police presence within and around the campus. “We will deploy more of our men, both in uniform and plain clothes, to strengthen surveillance and security. I assure the University Management that our tactical teams will be on the ground from time to time to ensure safety,” he said.

CP Lawal was accompanied by his Deputy Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and other senior members of the Nigeria Police Force.
