Ondo Environment Commissioner hosts Committee on review of State Environment Law

The newly sworn-in Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko is determined to make a paradigm shift in the environmental landscape of the state.

He said for the good people of Ondo State to live a healthy life, the environment needs to be clean at all times.

This came to fore today at a meeting held with the committee members on Review of Ondo State Environment Law.

The Commissioner commended the Committee for the job done so far and encouraged them to be thorough on the assignment before them as the output would affect both inhabitants as well as the visitors. He said with the composition of the committee, he does not doubt it’s competence.

Dr. Loko directed a comprehensive review of  Ondo State Environmental Protection Laws which are obsolete and enjoined the committee to give it a timeous delivery, in order to evolve an environment which is condusive for all to live.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Committee who also doubles as the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Kinga Olumide informed the Commissioner that the ministry has commenced Review of existing Ondo State Environmental Protection Laws in order to evolve a compendium of Environmental laws in the state.

He said the committee deemed it necessary to inform and involve the Commissioner at this juncture for him to be informed, carried along and also help in pushing the document as and when due.

The committee is constituted of professionals from Ministry of Justice, Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency, Waste Management Authority, and Heads of Departments of Environmental Assessment, Beautification, Parks & Garden, Ecology, PR&S, Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement, Climate Change and Pollution Control & Sanitation in the Ministry of Environment.
