Ondo Information Commissioner pledges support for ODIRS revenue generation drive

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, Idowu Ajanaku, has pledged the Ministry’s support for the revenue generation efforts of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS). He affirmed that strategic media engagement remains key to public enlightenment and compliance.

The Commissioner spoke on Tuesday when h received in audience the ODIRS management team, led by its Chairman, Bayo Rojugbonkan at the Ministry’s headquarters in Akure.

The ODIRS visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation with the Ministry in line with the state government’s OUR EASE development agenda.

The ODIRS boss said the revenue generation agency is focused on re-strategising its operations. He noted that effective media partnership was critical to communicating policies, increasing voluntary tax compliance and promoting accountability in the revenue system.

Responding, Hon. Ajanaku commended the revenue agency’s proactive approach and reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to support initiatives that would enhance internally generated revenue (IGR).

He cited the success of Lagos State’s media-driven revenue reforms as a viable model for Ondo State, noting that Lagos increased its monthly IGR from ₦600 million in 1999 to ₦50 billion through sustained public sensitisation and administrative reforms.

Ajanaku also recalled a remark by President Bola Tinubu, who identified Ondo as the state with the greatest IGR potential in the South-West after Lagos.

He urged the ODIRS to adopt innovative strategies, emphasising that the Information Ministry would maintain an open-door policy for ideas that align with the development priorities of the Aiyedatiwa administration.

The Commissioner further reaffirmed the Ministry’s strategic role in supporting government agencies through effective communication and public engagement.
