….Says predecessor has track record of excellence
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has expressed confidence in the capacity of Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun to transform the state education sector.
He described his appointment as the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ondo State as perfect, well-deserved and strategic.
Prof. Ige made the remark on Thursday, July 31, 2025, when he led members of the University Management on a congratulatory visit to the new Commissioner in his office in Akure.
He said his appointment did not come to the university as a surprise, describing it as a natural recognition of your stellar record of leadership, diligence, and commitment to public service.

Prof. Ige maintained that having served meritoriously as a Rector and later as a Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajibefun’s track record speaks volumes, noting that his appointment is a round peg in a round hole.
Ige commended the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the choice of Ajibefun, expressed optimism that the state’s education sector would witness unprecedented transformation under his watch.


“We trust that you will bring your vast experience in educational leadership to bear on the task ahead, and we pray for strength, wisdom, and the support you need to take education in the state to greater heights”, he said.
Responding, Prof. Ajibefun thanked the University team for the visit and expressed deep appreciation for the leadership and progress being recorded at the University under Prof. Ige.
He commended the University Management for upholding the institution’s tradition of academic excellence and stability, especially in maintaining an unbroken academic calendar.
He assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to revitalising the education sector in Ondo State. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is passionate about transforming education across all levels.
We will work collaboratively to address the sector’s challenges, from the basic to the tertiary levels. With synergy and dedication, we will reposition education to meet global standards,” he said.
