The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State in Ondo State is in a happy mood as the party is celebrating it’s Wednesday’s victory at the Appeal Court.
The the Apex Court had struck all appeals challenging the party’s victory in the November 16 governorship election in the State.
APC in a statement after the rulling described its triumph at the Supreme Court as the final endorsement of the people’s mandate freely given during the governorship election.
The statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, on Wednesday said the judgment affirmed the collective will of the electorate and further strengthened Nigeria’s democracy.
The APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, Olade Adelami, party leaders and the people of Ondo State for standing firm throughout the legal battle.
According to Adetimehin, the ruling was not only a victory for the APC but also for the rule of law and democracy.
He applauded the roles played by the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in ensuring a transparent electoral and judicial process.
The Supreme Court, earlier on Wednesday, dismissed cases filed by three political parties challenging APC’s victory at the polls. The appeals were led by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Agboola Ajayi, who later withdrew his petition. Similar challenges from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) were also struck out.
The ruling party in Ondo urged opposition parties to accept the verdict in good faith and support the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa in rebuilding critical sectors of the state’s economy.
APC called on all political stakeholders to put the election disputes behind them and join hands with the government to deliver meaningful development to the Sunshine State.
