Exercise HASKE BIYU 2025: AFCSC exposes media, stakeholders to Life of a Soldier

The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna State, on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, held a special regimental package tagged “A Day in the Life of a Soldier” as part of Exercise HASKE BIYU 2025.

The programme provided members of the press, civil society representatives and participants from ministries, departments, and agencies with first-hand experience of the daily routines of Nigerian soldiers.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of AFCSC, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Olukoya, the event was described as an opportunity to strengthen understanding and cooperation between the military and civilian stakeholders.

Participants dressed in military kits, took part in morning drills, muster parades, mountain climbing, rifle safety sessions, live firing exercises, guard mounting and crowd dispersal drills. They were also exposed to the traditions, administrative structures and justice system that define military life.

Olukoya noted that the initiative was designed to build trust and improve civil-military relations while supporting efforts to address security challenges confronting Nigeria.

He added that Exercise HASKE BIYU 2025 serves as a platform for the cross-fertilisation of ideas and the development of strategies aimed at enhancing internal security and counter-insurgency operations.

The exercise, which continues in Jaji, brings together officers from the armed forces, security agencies, media, civil society organisations and stakeholders from government institutions to broaden knowledge of military operations and strengthen collaboration in tackling national security issues.
