Ekiti Election: Ambassador Adedayo Alade emerges SDP governorship Candidate

In what has been widely described as a transparent and exemplary democratic process, Ambassador Adedayo Alade has officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election.

The party’s primary election, in Ado-Ekiti, witnessed the presence of party delegates and officials from all sixteen local government areas of the state. The atmosphere was peaceful, disciplined, and reflective of the SDP’s longstanding reputation for internal democracy and integrity.

Ambassador Alade, who was the sole aspirant in the exercise, polled one hundred and six (106) votes out of the one hundred and nine accredited delegates, with three votes declared void. The outcome reaffirmed the collective confidence of the delegates in his leadership and their faith in his vision for a more people-centred Ekiti.

Speaking after the collation of results, the General Secretary of the Electoral Committee and Chairman of the SDP in Ondo State, Mr. Gbenga Akinbuli, described the election as “free, fair, and transparent”. He praised the decorum of the delegates and reaffirmed the SDP’s commitment to credible electoral conduct. Mr. Akinbuli further urged Ambassador Alade to remain a standard-bearer of the SDP’s values; fairness, inclusiveness, and service,  as he sets out to contest for the trust of the Ekiti electorate.

In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Adedayo Alade expressed profound gratitude to the delegates, the leadership of the party, and the people of Ekiti for their overwhelming confidence in his candidacy. He pledged to serve with sincerity, accountability, and compassion, assuring that his administration would prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen social infrastructure across the state.

 “This victory is not about me,” Ambassador Alade remarked, “it is about the aspirations of the Ekiti people — our mothers in the markets, our youths seeking opportunities, our teachers, farmers, and artisans who deserve better governance and renewed hope.”

The Social Democratic Party, widely respected for its moral grounding and consistent advocacy for people-oriented governance, has once again demonstrated that credible leadership begins with credible selection. The party’s transparent process stands as a beacon of integrity in Nigeria’s political landscape, reinforcing public confidence in its ability to present candidates who embody the values of honesty, justice, and service.

The SDP is expected to formally present Ambassador Adedayo Alade to the public in a grand unveiling ceremony in the coming days, an event that will further consolidate the party’s readiness to offer Ekiti State a credible alternative rooted in truth, character, and commitment to the people’s welfare.
