Owo Council of Obas condemns LG chairman’s alleged derogatory comments against Olowo

The Owo Local Government Council of Obas has strongly condemned what it called recent derogatory remarks made by the suspended Chairman of Owo Local Government Area, Tope Omolayo, against the Olowo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Council and Oloba of Uso, Oba Ademola Oyinbade, the Oloba, the monarchs described Omolayo’s comments as “unpleasant, inappropriate and sacrilegious,” noting that they amount to an attack on the entire traditional institution of Owo.

The Council said it had initially chosen silence to give the suspended Council chairman, the opportunity to show remorse and tender an unreserved apology to the Olowo and other traditional rulers in the local government area.

However, the monarchs lamented that the suspended chairman had failed to make any sincere or practical effort towards reconciliation, stressing that his press conference in Akure could not be regarded as a genuine apology.

The traditional rulers reaffirmed their support for the Olowo and commended his maturity and calm response to what they described as an “unwarranted provocation.”

They urged political leaders to ensure that only disciplined and respectable individuals are sponsored for public offices to prevent such acts of embarrassment in the future.

While appealing to the people of Owo Kingdom to remain calm and law-abiding, the monarchs warned political office holders to be circumspect in their dealings with traditional institutions, adding that they would no longer tolerate any act of disrespect towards royal fathers in the area.
