ASOHON marks World Orphans Day with awareness on needs of vulnerable children

The Oyo State chapter of the Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON) joined the global community to commemorate World Orphans Day, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and protection of vulnerable children across the state.

As part of the activities marking the day, the association organized a road awareness walk aimed at drawing public attention to the plight of orphans and vulnerable children.

Speaking during the event, the Oyo State Coordinator of ASOHON, Mrs. Oluwatosin Kenny Aiyeola, explained that the awareness walk was designed to celebrate vulnerable children while inspiring collective action toward improving care and support for those without parental care.

“In Oyo State, we are celebrating orphanages and vulnerable children, while also creating awareness about their plight,” she said. “The 10th of November has been declared World Orphans Day, and we join the rest of the world every year to mark this important day.”

Mrs. Aiyeola emphasized the importance of collaboration and community support in improving the lives of children in need.

“We want the public to know that this world belongs to all of us. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. We are calling for support and attention to their needs,” she added.

She further appealed to government agencies, private organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to strengthen partnerships that ensure every child has access to love, care, and quality education.

The event kicked off at 10:00 a.m. at the Secretariat Main Gate, from where participants moved through Bodija Market, passed by Trans Amusement Park, proceeded to Sango, and continued the march to Mokola before returning through the Fire Service route.

The Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON) was established out of the passion, zeal, and commitment of the founders and executives of government-registered orphanages and homes to raise the standard of care and protection for all vulnerable children across Nigeria.
