Oyo Child Protection Network inaugurates 15 zonal leaders

The Child Protection Network (CPN), Oyo State chapter, has inaugurated more than 15 grassroots zonal leaders to strengthen and expand child protection structures across the state.

The inauguration, themed “Decentralization to the Grassroots,” took place in Ibadan on Thursday.

The state coordinator, Dr. Rosemary  Odigbo said as part of the decentralization effort, the Oyo State CPN has now been reorganized into 13 functional zones which will serve as the backbone of our grassroots engagement, ensuring that child protection activities are effectively coordinated, and responses are timely and context-specific across the state.

Dr. Rosemary  Odigbo during her welcome address said the decentralization initiative is both strategic and essential, as true and lasting impact can only be achieved when protection efforts reach every home, every ward, and every local community.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to strengthen and expand child protection structures across Oyo State. For several years, the Child Protection Network, working under the partnership of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion and other State and non-state actors, has remained deeply committed to promoting child rights, strengthening response systems, and ensuring that every child is safe, valued, and protected.”

The state coordinator advised the newly inaugurated grassroots zonal leaders, to see the appointment as a call to service.

“You are the eyes, ears, and voice of CPN at the community level. Through your leadership, we trust that the message of child protection will spread deeper and stronger across all zones of Oyo State.”

On the legal aspect, Barrister Seun Folajuwon, who also doubles as a child’s right advocate, advised the newly inaugurated zonal leaders to collaborate with the appropriate authorities and adhere strictly to due process.

“Don’t just take the vulnerable child away; ensure you first report every case to the police, follow the proper procedures, and document every step taken to protect the child.”

She also addressed the issue of confidentiality, emphasizing that the identity of victims should not be openly disclosed.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated grassroots zonal leaders, Mrs. Jadesola Ajibola pledged their dedication to carrying out their mandate responsibly and lawfully.
