Police arrest suspect over attempted murder, recover single-barrel gun in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a male suspect in connection with an attempted murder case and unlawful possession of a firearm in Akure, the state capital.

The suspect, identified as Oladimeji, was apprehended by operatives of the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters following a distress report from a female resident of Kayode Street, Akure.

Police sources said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked the victim during a confrontation and later fired a gunshot at her, though she escaped unhurt.

A search conducted at the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of an unlicensed single-barrel gun, which has been taken into police custody as evidence.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation, and police authorities said he would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, warned residents against engaging in violent and criminal activities, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

He reassured the public that the command remains responsive to distress calls and committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police also urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.
