2027 Elections: Aiyedatiwa rules out automatic ticket for APC aspirants in Ondo

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has clarified that he has not endorsed, approved, or promised any elective ticket to any aspirant for the 2027 elections, warning against rumours and falsehoods that could divide the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the statement on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC at The Dome, Akure, where party leaders reaffirmed unity and intensified mobilisation for the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.

“Let me quickly correct this, because we know in the political climate there are many falsehoods, lies, insinuations and assumptions that fly around and try to create cracks and divisions. I have not promised anyone a ticket for state or national assembly, nor will I deny anyone a return ticket,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He added that all party leaders will participate in the process of selecting candidates, with the APC exploring a consensus arrangement. He urged members to remain disciplined and to protect the party from internal divisions, noting that APC remains the only viable party in the state.

The governor also highlighted the e-registration exercise, stating that as of the meeting, Ondo State had recorded 128,770 registered members, ranking third in the South-West. He noted that challenges with National Identification Numbers (NIN) were being addressed to boost participation.

During the meeting, party leaders and stakeholders praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration for progress in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, security, and urban renewal programmes in Akure.

National Vice Chairman of APC, Southwest, Dr Isaac Kekemeke, commended the governor for uniting party factions and fostering inclusiveness. State caretaker chairman, Engr Ade Adetimehin, urged party members to remain united, stressing that internal rivalry could weaken the party.

Representatives of the House of Representatives and the Senate, along with other party leaders, pledged stronger mobilisation ahead of future elections.

In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji (represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu); Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; members of the State Executive Council; federal lawmakers; and political appointees.
