Ondo at 50: Aiyedatiwa leads 5km health walk in Akure

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Saturday led a 5-kilometre health walk in Akure as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ondo State.

The walk which commenced from the Government House, Alagbaka, and terminated at the Akure Township Stadium, was designed to promote wellness, unity and reflection as the state marks its golden jubilee.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the governor urged residents to remain committed to maintaining their physical strength and spiritual wellbeing, noting that both are critical to productivity and service to society.

Drawing from biblical references, Aiyedatiwa said spiritual devotion plays a vital role in renewing strength, adding that participants demonstrated endurance and determination by completing the walk successfully.

He described the health walk as a significant component of the anniversary programme, explaining that the body, which supports the soul and spirit, must be kept in good condition to function optimally.

According to the governor, regular physical exercise contributes to cardiovascular health, improves breathing and enhances overall wellbeing, warning that neglect of physical health could affect mental focus and spiritual balance.

Members of the State Executive Council, political appointees, party members and residents of the state participated in the walk, with many expressing excitement over the initiative and its inclusive nature.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the large turnout and the smooth conduct of the exercise, noting that no injuries were recorded throughout the event.

He commended the anniversary planning committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti, for effective coordination, and announced that the jubilee activities would continue with a thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Church, Akure, on Sunday.
