Kwara killings: Tinubu condemns attack, orders deployment of army battalion to Kaiama

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly terrorist attack on Worro community, where suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed several villagers overnight.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed that the new military formation should lead Operation Savannah Shield, with a mandate to confront the attackers and protect vulnerable communities in the area.

President Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly and brutal, and criticised the assailants for targeting defenceless civilians as part of what he termed a failed campaign of terror.

He expressed deep anger over the killing of villagers who reportedly resisted attempts by the terrorists to impose extremist indoctrination.

The President commended members of the affected community for rejecting violent extremism and choosing to practise a form of Islam rooted in peace and dialogue.

He noted that their stance reflected courage and commitment to communal harmony despite grave threats to their lives.

President Tinubu further called for close collaboration between federal and state authorities to provide immediate relief to affected residents and to ensure that those responsible for the killings are apprehended and brought to justice.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended condolences to bereaved families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State, assuring them of the Federal Government’s resolve to restore safety and stability to the area.
