Deji of Akure appoints High Chief Adeyeye as new Iralepo of Isinkan

The Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi has appointed High Chief Gbenga Adeyeye as the new Iralepo of Isikan.

The ceremony according to the Chief Press Secretary to the monarch was held at the Deji’s palace. The Deji’s decision follows the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Suit No: CA/AK/69/2022, which validated the change in leadership.

A letter signed by the Deji of Akure instructed Oba Ojo to vacate the Iralepo’s traditional palace immediately and hand over all palace properties for proper documentation.

The letter further warned against any attempt by the former Iralepo to parade himself in the capacity of the office, stating that any violation would attract stiffer penalties, including legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Isinkan community has rejected the Deji’s appointment of High Chief Gbenga Adeyeye as the new Iralepo, insisting that the position is not vacant.

In a press statement signed by Chief Kayode Oluyi, the Olisa of Isinkan, the community maintained that Oba Oluwagbemiga Ajimokunola Olofin-Adimula (Arulewolasi III), remains the rightful Iralepo of Isinkan and continues to occupy the palace.

The statement also emphasised that the selection of an Iralepo is solely the prerogative of the Isinkan people and not the Deji of Akure.

It recalled that Gbenga Adeyeye had contested the throne in 2021 but was rejected for reasons related to customary law and eligibility.

The community urged its people to remain calm and peaceful while it pursues legal options regarding the Court of Appeal ruling.
