Ondo Information Commissioner pledges to drive value reorientation

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku has promised that his ministry will drive the initiative that will reorient residents on the Omoluabi values that the state is known for.

The Commissioner spoke on Wednesday when he received in audience members of the Digital Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists who were on a courtesy visit to his office in Akure.

Ajanaku said his ministry is not only for information dissemination but a strong focus on re-orienting societal values.

“This Ministry is not about propaganda. It is about information, education, and value reorientation,” he said. “We’ll be engaging media practitioners like yourselves to take this message to schools, markets, and every corner of Ondo State”, he said.

The commissioner expressed deep appreciation for the visit and pledged continued support for the media.

Reflecting on his career, he noted his passion for journalism, spanning over 17 years with top publications like Vanguard and The Guardian.

He emphasized the importance of digital media in modern information management, stating that the future of journalism lies in digital media.

He assured the chapel that the Ministry’s doors are open for ideas and collaboration, especially as the government sets its sights on legacy-building initiatives.

Earlier, leader of the team, Omoba Adesoye Ajayi said the visit was to familiarize with the commissioner and pledged support.

Omoba Ajayi who is the Station Manager of JABU Radio 105.7 FM expressed the chapel’s delight at the appointment of a seasoned journalist to head the Ministry. He described Hon. Idowu as “a journalist per excellence,” and lauded his longstanding commitment to journalism, information dissemination and media development.

He explained that the Digital Media Chapel is a newly established branch within NUJ, created for practicing journalists across different sectors who are not affiliated with either the state or federal chapels.

He said members are made up of professionals including professors, PhD holders and seasoned media practitioners from higher institutions in the state.


He stated, “This time around, we are happy that we have someone from our own constituency. That’s why we’ve come today to not only congratulate you but also assure you of our full collaboration in publicizing government activities and shaping public orientation.”

Those in the meeting include the Vice Chairman of the Chapel, Yinka Ogunleye, Secretary, Olusegun Hosea, Financial Secretary, Richard Ilesanmi and one of the leaders of the Chapel, Kunle Ajibogun.
